After Marcelo Bielsa made some remarks about Gaetano Berardi following Leeds United’s win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon, a number of the club’s faithful left their own comments regarding the Swiss defender’s contribution.
In post-match comments, as relayed by LUFCDATA, the Argentine said: “One of the best performances of the team (past 2 games). For our team he is very important. For his contribution every time he has to play. He is also a leader, supporting every teammate. Everybody respects and loves him.”
Berardi has only played a bit part for Leeds this season, having made just 17 Championship appearances so far, although he has achieved an average of one tackle, 1.2 interceptions and 2.4 clearances in those outings, amassing a match average rating of 6.63 (WhoScored).
Indeed, the 31-year-old put in another telling contribution for the Whites in their match against their Yorkshire rivals, as he made a total of three tackles, two interceptions, four clearances and won two aerial duels as he achieved a match rating of 7.29 (as per WhoScored).
Some fans reacted to Bielsa’s comments with the demand that the club offer Berardi a new deal as his current one at Elland Road expires in the summer, whilst others had admitted that they were impressed with what they have seen from the former one-time Switzerland international (as per TransferMarkt), with a couple stating that he had been ‘quality’.

I’ll admit I was one of doubters regarding Beradi. Previous seasons, Derby in the playoffs and unnecessary stick for Millwall earlier in the season. He’s been outstanding when required and genuinely think he could do a back up job in the premiership.
