Journalist rules out Arne Slot joining Leeds on TalkSPORT

Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan has claimed that Arne Slot won’t be joining Leeds United anytime soon.

The Lowdown: Another rejection for Leeds

Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta are certainly struggling to fill the void left by former manager Jesse Marsch with the likes of Carlos Corberan and Andoni Iraola both seemingly off the table.

Therefore, when links emerged to Feyenoord manager Slot, many will have been excited given that he’s currently got the Dutch side sitting very impressively at the top of the Eredivisie above the likes of Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.

However, that joy may well have been short-lived as the Feyenoord General Manager has come out and indicated that they wouldn’t be looking to lose Slot midway through a season, as reported by Phil Hay.

Van der Kraan has heaped glowing praise on the way Slot has Feyenoord playing football live on TalkSPORT, only for him to then rule the Dutch boss out of the running for the Leeds job.

He said: “Arne Slot is probably the most exciting football manager/head coach I’ve probably seen for the last 10 years. He really, really gets a team going, and plays the most attacking style you can imagine, probably more maniac than Pep Guardiola, it’s so attacking.

“I was at his game last night Feyenoord in the Dutch Cup and they had a new record in Dutch football by having 50 shots at goal in 120 minutes of football, it was absolutely fantastic.

“He’s only been there one and a half years at Feyenoord and if I was Leeds, I would go for him, absolutely, but maybe Leeds fans don’t get very excited because he’s not coming.”

The Verdict: May be difficult to prise away Slot

While Leeds may well believe that their newly assembled squad and the finances involved for managers in the Premier League could be enough to tempt Slot to Elland Road, the fact he is in pole position to lift the league title could weigh heavy on his mind.

This is because it would be a huge risk for him to leave his home country halfway through the season while dominating Dutch football and pick up the baton at Leeds who are in the thick of a relegation battle.

Slot looks to be the only manager left in the running at the moment but if Feyenoord do indeed stand firm on their stance of keeping Slot until at least the summer to not disrupt their successful campaign, Victor Orta may well be back at square one.
