Leeds United could make a move for PSV forward Cody Gakpo in the coming days, according to Foot Mercato.

Gakpo, called a 'sensational player' by football-oranje.com editor and Dutch football expert Michael Bell, was linked with a move to Elland Road earlier in the window.

The Whites were thought to be in talks for the 23-year-old, who was a big target alongside Charles De Ketelaere. Rumours had initially cooled after Leeds brought in Luis Sinisterra, but it looks as if he is still of interest to those at Elland Road.

The Latest: Could move before season opener

Foot Mercato shared an update on Tuesday regarding Leeds, who are still thought to be after a Raphinha replacement.

The report said that Leeds are still ‘very attentive’ when it comes to Gakpo, adding that ‘before starting the season against Wolves this Saturday, Leeds could therefore see its workforce move’.

The Verdict: Tempting

Gakpo, a Netherlands international, has scored 45 goals at senior level for club and country and can play anywhere across the front three. The 23-year-old enjoyed his best season in front of goal in 2021/22, so you can see why Leeds have been thinking of a summer swoop.

However, with Sinisterra brought in, it could be wise to target a player who is more comfortable in a central role over Gakpo, who likes to turn out on the left.

It looks as if it is still one to watch, and with Arsenal also name-checked with an interest in Gakpo, a move to Elland Road could be seen as a major coup.
