Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch wants to make CF Montreal midfielder Djordje Mihailovic his first signing, Manuel Veth reports.

The Lowdown: Mihailovic profiled

Mihailovic is 23 years of age and is primarily an attacking midfielder who can also play in a deeper role. He is a brilliant playmaker, with one journalist labelling him a 'gorgeous passer'.

He has been with Montreal since December 2020 and has made 38 appearances for the club, scoring five times and registering 15 assists.

The USA international will be into the final 18 months of his current contract in the summer, and it seems as if Marsch wants to bring his countryman to Yorkshire.

Transfermarkt journalist Veth shared Leeds’ interest in Mihailovic on Twitter.

He labelled the midfielder as ‘fantastic’ and claimed Marsch wants to make the player his first signing at Elland Road.

“Leeds United want Djordje Mihailovic. Mihailovic has been in fantastic form for CF Montréal last year and has continued his form this season in the Concacaf Champions League. Marsch wants to make the USMNT midfielder his first signing at his new club.”

The Verdict: Realistic target?

Marsch has a job on his hands to steer Leeds away from trouble, with the club just two points clear of the relegation zone with 12 games remaining.

However, even if the unthinkable happens, you’d expect Mihailovic could be a realistic target for the Whites in either division due to the player’s meagre £4.5m Transfermarkt valuation.

The Whites never made a permanent midfield addition during Marcelo Bielsa's three-and-a-half years in charge, and that area of the pitch could do with bolstering in the summer, so Mihailovic could be an exciting addition going off his impressive assist record in the MLS.
