Leeds United have now opened talks to sign RB Salzburg’s Maximilian Wober, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Romano’s reveal

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano was the man who first broke the news regarding the Whites and Wober. He revealed on Tuesday afternoon that Leeds are ‘preparing an offer’ for the Salzburg captain, who is regarded as an ‘important player’ by the Austrian side.

Romano said that discussions are expected to take place for a fee of around €11m plus €5m add-ons, and it looks as if those talks are now underway.

The Latest: Talks open

FI shared what they know about Leeds and a potential move for Wober on Wednesday morning.

They claimed that the Whites have opened talks with Salzburg and are working on agreeing on a fee for the versatile defender, possibly in the region of an initial £9.5m.

The Verdict: Smart

Wober has mainly plied his trade as a left-back during the current campaign, contributing to seven goals in 16 games from that position.

He has plenty of experience at the highest level for club and country and would also provide an option for Jesse Marsch at centre-back.

Marsch knows all about the player after working with him in Austria, so it seems a sensible transfer by Leeds officials and one that will hopefully go through over the coming weeks.
