Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Raphinha and Rodrigo will both miss Leeds United’s clash with Manchester United this weekend.
The Whites host their old rivals in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, in what promises to be an intriguing contest at Elland Road.
Bielsa’s side have taken four points from recent clashes against Manchester City and Liverpool, proving they can compete with the best teams in division.
Bielsa confirms pair will miss Man United clash
Speaking to the press on Friday [via the Metro], Bielsa said that Leeds would be without the pair this weekend, with neither recovering in time:
“With Raphinha we are controlling his evolution on a daily basis and up until now he hasn’t recovered sufficiently to be able to train again.
“Rodrigo is in the last stages of his recovery but not well enough to feature this weekend.”
Transfer Tavern take
Raphinha’s absence is an undoubted blow for Leeds, with his quality, unpredictability and goal threat making him one of his side’s best players this season, with 12 goal contributions – six goals and six assists – in the league proof of that.
In truth, Rodrigo has been more expendable in 2020/21, though, and he likely wouldn’t have started the game, even if he was fit.
Just three goals in 23 appearances highlights why he isn’t seen as a key player at the moment, although the hope is that the Spaniard overcomes his struggles and eventually shows his true quality.
In other news, a former Leeds player has urged the Whites to sign a Scottish Premiership player this summer. Find out who it is here.
