Phil Hay believes that Georginio Rutter could be in line to start for Leeds United this season.

The Lowdown: Leeds looking to avoid an upset

Many may well have been left slightly surprised when Jesse Marsch decided against unleashing club-record signing Rutter in their last game against Brentford but may finally get a glimpse of their new attacker this weekend.

Leeds will make the away trip to Accrington Stanley for tomorrow’s FA Cup lunchtime kick-off which could see them progress into the fifth round of the competition for the first time since the 2015/16 season.

While it will be seen as a potential banana skin given the type of clubs Leeds have been knocked out by in the past including Crawley Town and Newport County and fans should be excited by the fact a £35.5 million attacker could well be in the starting lineup.

The Latest: Rutter set to start

Hay, who will be in attendance at tomorrow’s game, has claimed on The Phil hay Show that he expects Rutter to start against League One outfit Accrington Stanley.

He said: (39:40) “It sounds like he might start which would be good, I’m really looking forward to seeing him and seeing what he’s about.”

The Verdict: Marsch must go strong

Leeds avoided a major scare in the previous round when they netted a last-gasp equaliser away to Cardiff City to ensure they could bring the Championship side back to Elland Road and eventually knock them out in a replay.

However, given the congested fixture schedule ahead for all Premier League clubs, Marsch will be keen to avoid yet another unnecessary game in the form of a replay which is why he has to field pretty much his strongest side.

Therefore, unleashing a £35.5 million attacker on a League One side that are sitting in the bottom half of their respective division would be a positive step in the right direction to put Accrington Stanley to the sword and progress further in the competition.
