Leeds United could still make a late move for Denmark star Mikkel Damsgaard this summer, as deadline day edges nearer all the time.
The Lowdown: Damsgaard linked with Leeds move
Damsgaard enjoyed a memorable Euro 2020 campaign with Denmark, arguably standing out as one of the best attacking players in the competition after his stunning free-kick in the semi-final at Wembley.
The Sampdoria man has been linked with a move to Leeds this summer, but as of yet, nothing has materialised.
The Latest: Fresh update provided
It looks as though it could be a transfer saga that goes to the wire, however, with La Repubblica [via Sport Witness] claiming that the Whites are ‘eligible candidates’ to sign him, along with Liverpool.
Tottenham are believed to have dropped out of the race, while Aston Villa are also mentioned as possible suitors.
The Verdict: Exciting late addition?
Leeds’ transfer business has been relatively low-key, but it would be exciting to see someone like Damsgaard added to the squad late in the day.
The attacking midfielder possesses the creativity to provide even more guile in the final third – he averaged 1.2 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game at the Euros – and at 21, he would be a long-term signing who great potential.
Damsgaard can also play out wide, if required, so his versatility could appeal to Marcelo Bielsa, who may still be looking for depth in wide areas after the loan departure of Ian Poveda.
In other news, Leeds have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign one player. Find out who it is here.
