Kevin Phillips has tipped Leeds United to be at the front of a queue of clubs to sign Liverpool striker Divock Origi.
Origi tipped for Leeds move
As such, he could well be on the way out of the door in the next transfer window, and Phillips believes that the Whites could be his preferred destination. He told Football Insider:
“I would imagine Origi will leave in January but if not, it will definitely be the summer.
“Coming off the back of what the club did last year, he would want to be a part of it again so I am not surprised that he didn’t leave this summer.
“But it has been a tough year for him so far. He has not been used so much and when he has got his opportunities he looks rusty. He has not played enough football.
“A fresh challenge for him would be best and I am sure there will be a queue of clubs looking to sign him if he is made available.
“We have seen what he can do. He just needs to play football.
“I would not be surprised if he moves on in January and Leeds is definitely a potential destination.”
The main reason why Origi would like to leave Anfield is because of his lack of playing time – it will have nothing to do with the stature of the club. Liverpool, of course, are the current Premier League champions, and they also won the Champions League in 2019. Origi, of course, played a huge role in that latter success, scoring twice against Barcelona in the second-leg semi-final, and he also netted in the final versus Tottenham.
Would you like to sign Divock Origi?
At Leeds, though, there is no guarantee he would be a regular starter. Despite initial worries, Patrick Bamford has had a fantastic start to the new campaign, scoring seven goals in his first 10 games, whilst also managing two assists. There is no reason to believe that Marcelo Bielsa does not remain behind the 27-year-old. As such, it seems unlikely that Origi would move to Elland Road to provide nothing other than an alternative.
