Leeds: Phil Hay slams Jack Harrison after his latest poor display

Elland Road, Leeds, Britain - August 6, 2022, Leeds United's Jack Harrison.

Phil Hay issued a damning one-word statement after Jack Harrison smashed a free kick well over the crossbar during Leeds United’s defeat.

The Lowdown: Leeds in a dire position

In what will have been seen as a must-win game Leeds buckled under the pressure and didn’t just lose against a relegation rival yesterday, but they were hardly even an opponent during the game.

This is because Michael Skubala’s team failed to register a single shot on target in the entire game which added up to an XG of just 0.5, so it’s no surprise that many will be worried about the club’s future.

Leeds fans will have had to watch on yesterday as many of their players seemingly ducked out of their responsibilities and tasted defeat once again with simple mistakes taking place, especially Harrison who failed to take a basic free kick.

The Latest: Harrison sums up Leeds’ performance

Hay was indeed in attendance at Goodison Park yesterday so witnessed Harrison’s free-kick – which was won 35-yards out from the Everton goal – but all the winger could do from that distance was not get it into the penalty area for a teammate, but just overhit it.

The winger was asked with lofting the ball into a dangerous area but he wasn’t even up for that simple task which almost sums up Leeds’ display and Hay summed it up very well by tweeting out ‘garbage. Overhit and out for a goal kick. 1-0 on 78 mins.’

The Verdict: Relegation is a real possibility

It’s safe to say that the stats of Harrison aren’t for pleasant viewing as he lost possession 24 times, had a 46% pass accuracy and lost seven out of his eight duels (Sofascore).

As things stand Leeds have to be viewed as one of the favourites to drop down into the Championship come the end of the season as they’ve got two wins in their last 20 league matches and sit inside the bottom three.

That coupled with the fact they are also managerless and teams around them such as Everton, Bournemouth and Southampton all won yesterday to crank up the pressure massively on Leeds.

It’s inexcusable that from 35 yards out Harrison manage to clip a ball over the bar but it almost sums up his season with just one goal to his name, but also how poor Leeds have been at the basics and are simply not good enough for this level at the moment.
