Alex McLeish picked up his eighth competitive win in just 11 games as Scotland manager last night as the Tartan Army put Albania to the sword. Indeed, after the 0-4 crushing at hands of Belgium late last week, a thumping home win was in order for the Scots.
Steven Naismith and an Albanian own goal put the visitors to the sword, though one of the most interesting narratives to have emerged out of last night’s game was the international standing of Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths. ‘Super Leigh’ as he’s affectionately known is one of the nation’s most popular players, as well as best goalscorers, though was left on the bench in favour of Naismith last night.
The Hearts striker did score, though also missed a sitter of almost Chris Iwelumo proportions, making the sight of Griffiths sat on the bench all the more interesting. Ever the popular amongst the Scotland faithful, here’s a look at the reaction online.
Naismith is playing like Morelos here. If Griffiths was in his place Scotland would be three up. #SCOALB
