It’s been business as usual for Celtic in the opening couple of games of the Scottish Premiership’s new season.

The Bhoys have seen off both Hearts and Partick Thistle in their opening two league games with a 5-0 thrashing of Kilmarnock in the Betfair Cup squeezed in for good measure between the opening league games and our landlord believes there is more to come from Brendan Rodgers’ men this season.

The Celtic fans in the Tavern agree and they want to see the impetus put on delivering in European football this season with high hopes placed on the progress of Rodgers’ men. The feeling is that the standard of Scottish football will not improve enough to challenge Celtic this season and see how good the Bhoys really are, their squad have to really pull their finger out in the European competition.

With that said, if Rodgers’ men are to progress in Europe this season – our landlord feels a few more names could and should be added to the Celtic squad in order to enhance the quality and the all round European pedigree.

He has outlined two players that Rodgers simply must tie up deals for in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

Patrick Roberts

The main hope of the Celtic punters in the Tavern is that their club can seal a deal for Manchester City’s Patrick Roberts before the transfer window slams shut.

The winger really shone in his eighteen-month loan spell at Celtic Park, most memorably scoring against his parent club in the Bhoys’ Champions League campaign last season and it is a memory that has not died in the Celtic fans’ mind.

This deal will really show Celtic’s intent not just for this season but the future as well which Roberts may feature heavily in should he join in this window, failure to do so may prove detrimental to Brendan Rodgers’ hopes of progression in European competition.

Charly Musonda

Suggested as an alternative for Roberts, the vast amount of fixtures that Celtic could play this season could see Brendan Rodgers look to sign Charly Musonda from Chelsea.

With the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro about to return the the Chelsea first team and Antonio Conte favouring Jeremie Boga to start the first game of the season in their absence, Musonda may see Celtic as a real option to progress his career and gain the opportunities he cannot get in the Blues’ first team.
