Liverpool have enjoyed a busy summer of recruitment following their Premier League title victory and have now added further quality to their squad.

The Reds have already completed the signings of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike and Milos Kerkez, but more arrivals are expected before the transfer window closes.

A centre-back may be on the agenda, with uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konaté’s future beyond the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, another wide forward could be targeted if speculation around a potential departure proves to be true.

It is no secret to Liverpool fans that Luis Diaz has expressed a desire to move on from his time on Merseyside, after struggling to agree terms over a contract extension.

The Premier League champions have already rebuffed interest from Bayern Munich, rejecting a bid worth €67.5m (£56m) and valuing the Colombian winger at over €100m (£86m).

Reports yesterday suggested that the Bundesliga giants are not done testing Liverpool’s resolve.

According to talkSPORT transfer insider Alex Crook, Bayern are preparing an improved package:

“Sources in Germany suggesting Bayern Munich are ready to offer #LFC a package worth up to £70m for Luis Díaz.”

However, The Athletic’s James Pearce shot down an imminent approach from the German club and also threw cold water on reports of a move for Real Madrid star Rodrygo to replace him.

Writing on social media platform X, Pearce claimed:

“Liverpool yet to receive an improved bid from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz. Player has trained normally so far this week in Hong Kong.”

“Real Madrid’s Rodrygo currently not viewed as a possible replacement if Diaz does go. No talks.”

Should Liverpool Sell Luis Diaz?

There is no doubt that Diaz has been a fantastic player and a valuable asset during his time at Liverpool.

Since joining from Porto in January 2022, the dynamic forward has played a crucial role in the Reds’ attacking threat, winning two League Cups, an FA Cup and most recently, the Premier League title.

Over 148 appearances for Liverpool, Diaz has scored 41 goals and provided 23 assists, averaging a goal contribution every 156 minutes played – a clear demonstration of his consistency and impact.

The 28-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most exciting wingers in the Premier League and has earned praise for his performances.

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness lauded the Colombian star shortly after his arrival, describing him as a “real asset to Liverpool” during an appearance on Sky Sports:

“He’s a player that, if you’re a supporter, he gets you on the edge of your seat. He’s direct, he’s quick, he’s aggressive.”

“He’s just another absolute threat that Liverpool have. Defenders don’t like to play against people who can go past you with either pace or a drop of the shoulder and it looks like he’s got both. Super dangerous. A real asset to Liverpool.”

That said, with Diaz turning 29 early next year and reportedly open to a new challenge, now may be the right time for Liverpool to cash in on the little magician.

Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz and highly-rated youngster Rio Ngumoha can all operate on the left flank, so it wouldn’t be an immediate concern in terms of depth in Diaz’s role if he did depart this summer.

With that in mind, it will be fascinating to see whether Bayern return with an improved offer and whether Liverpool are prepared to entertain it.
