Liverpool are discussing the idea of signing a left-back to serve as Andy Robertson’s deputy, but Jurgen Klopp may think they already have one in Yasser Larouci.
According to James Pearce (relayed via @AnfieldEdition), it’s uncertain whether the manager trusts the 19-year-old enough to fill in during the Scot’s absence. Robertson was left out of the squad that faced Everton on Sunday, forcing James Milner to slot into the back-line.
The former Leeds man is currently Liverpool’s only senior back-up option to cover the left full-back role. It seems Klopp’s only options are to either trust Larouci in the same way he put faith in Trent Alexander-Arnold, or recruit this summer.

Robertson has rapidly become arguably one of the best left-backs in the Premier League after joining the Reds from Hull for £8million in 2017 (via BBC Sport). His Transfermarkt value is now at an impressive £57m (£72m prior to the financial dip). Filling his boots will be a difficult job, and many Liverpool fans don’t think Larouci is up for the task.
One supporter has gone as far as saying he is ‘just another Moreno’. The Spaniard was a controversial figure at the club, often known for his calamitous mistakes on the pitch.

Larouci can’t defend and is just another Moreno

Sign a back up left back and send Larouci on loan to the championship/league 1. He needs to start defending better before he can play left back for Klopp. He often plays as a winger for u23 and looks like a winger when playing left back in pre season/cup games.

Been linked with Lewis, Saka & Alaba. 🤞We can sign a decent LB this summer as we desperately need 1! We can’t rely on Robertson to stay fit all throughout a season & not suffer injury or fatigue

He could be decent after a few loans but as of now and the near future his positioning just makes him a younger alberto moreno

Time perhaps to stop ‘depending’ or ‘relying’ on youth / reserve players to ‘step in for’ missing players!!!
Let’s do what the normal big clubs do most of the time, and bring somebody experienced and reliable in! 💁🏻♂️🏆— Mike Gaz (@underscoreMikeG) June 23, 2020
No. He isn’t ready for first team. Decent going forward; lacks defensively and game awareness
