Liverpool fans on Twitter can’t get enough of Shaqiri

It’s very rare that a player comes into a top side in Europe from a relegated team and instantly galvanises the fans so quickly, yet at Anfield, Xherdan Shaqiri has done that. The Swiss import from Stoke City has scored twice for his new club and already the Reds are making him out to be undroppable given the way their side is playing.

The feeling around the red half of Merseyside is that a lot of teams missed out with Shaqiri. The little playmaker had plenty of traits that would put you off when he was at Stoke, inconsistency, laziness and the likes, but since he swapped The Potters for The Kopites he’s been a star turn under his new manager, Jurgen Klopp. It says a lot about the 27-year-old that he’s already fitting in and being compared to the likes of Mo Salah for his impact.

Despite Shaqiri’s brilliance at Anfield so far and the fans love him for him, six months ago it would have been impossible to predict that the 75-cap Switzerland international would be thriving in a midfield role on Merseyside. In his time at Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Stoke, Shaqiri was seen as an out-and-out winger, but now that Klopp’s had a chance to mould him into a midfielder we’re seeing a different side of a once one-dimensional player.
