Liverpool had been linked with a move for Gordon for a number of months, a player who was considered to be, according to The Athletic, “the best 16-year-old in the country”.

The Englishman made his Championship debut during Derby’s 4-0 win against Birmingham City before the New Year and has scored three goals in five appearances in the U18 Premier League.
