Liverpool: Reds offered potential Ruben Neves boost

Liverpool: Reds offered potential Ruben Neves boost - Liverpool News

Liverpool could still complete the signing of Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves this summer, with a fresh update handing the Reds a potential boost.

The Lowdown: Neves influential for Wolves

The Portuguese continues to be an influential figure for Wanderers, scoring in the recent 3-0 victory over Liverpool and enjoying an 83.9% pass completion rate in the Premier League this season.

Neves looked almost certain to leave Wolves during last summer’s transfer window but ended up staying put, although an exit this time around arguably feels even more likely.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old, who is out of contract at Molineux next year.

The Latest: Liverpool still interested

According to Sport [via Caught Offside], Neves would like to join Barcelona this summer but Xavi would prefer to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi instead.

That acts as a boost to Liverpool, whose interest in the Wolves man is mentioned, along with Manchester United and Newcastle United.

It’s added that Neves now refuses to rule out joining another English side given Barca’s hesitancy over his proposed transfer.

The Verdict: Hard to see happening

This is certainly a positive when it comes to Liverpool’s potential pursuit of Neves but it is still difficult to see him ending up at Anfield next season.

Jude Bellingham appears to be the Reds’ primary midfield target, and considering the England star would cost an enormous amount of money, it would be hard for Neves to arrive on a big fee, too.

His Wanderers teammate, Matheus Nunes, actually feels like a more likely option, having been linked with a move recently and being likely to cost less.

Should Neves suddenly end up Liverpool, there should certainly be no complaints, however, with the 37-time capped Portugal international averaging 2.5 tackles per game in the league this term – only Thiago (2.9) has averaged more – as well as being described as ‘amazing’ by Jose Sa.
