Liverpool: Sofyan Amrabat could be signed for £35m -Liverpool Transfer Rumours

Liverpool have been given a potential boost in their reported pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, judging by reports out of Italy.

The Lowdown: Liverpool want Amrabat

Fresh from a memorable World Cup campaign in which he helped Morocco to reach the semi-finals, previously unchartered territory for any African nation, the 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League giants of late.

Journalist Rudy Galetti tweeted earlier this week that Amrabat is keen on a move to Anfield, with FSG having already initiated contact with the player’s entourage over his possible signing.

One Italian outlet believes that the Moroccan could be very attainable for Liverpool.

The Latest: £35m could do it

On Thursday, the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport reported (via Daily Express) that Fiorentina cannot afford to turn down an offer of £35m if one is presented to them in the January transfer window.

The report adds that Liverpool would have the financial wherewithal to pay that figure for Amrabat if they wish to do so next month, with the Reds ‘seriously’ considering a swoop for the 26-year-old.

The Verdict: Would be foolish not to

While it can sometimes seem ill-advised to spend big on a player off the back of one good tournament, there is no getting away from Liverpool’s urgent need to reinforce their midfield at the earliest opportunity.

Several of Jurgen Klopp‘s current squad will be out of contract next summer as things stand, while the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have unenviable injury records, and the trio of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are into their 30s.

Reds fans, do you remember how many players Liverpool signed last summer?

Amrabat won widespread praise for his performances at the World Cup, with Stuart Pearce telling talkSPORT that the Moroccan set a “wonderful example” throughout the tournament, and many prominent journalists named him in their best XI of Qatar 2022.

With Fiorentina seemingly resigned to selling at £35m, a figure that Liverpool can apparently afford, FSG would be foolish to let this golden opportunity pass in terms of reinforcing a problem area of the squad at Anfield.
