Liverpool have spent much of the summer searching for a new attacking star following the departure of Mohamed Salah.
The Reds initially identified Yan Diomande as their preferred option, only for the youngster to choose a move to Real Madrid.
Attention then turned towards Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, but a deal has failed to materialise so far, with the French champions demanding a huge fee.
That has prompted Liverpool to widen their search, and another PSG forward has now emerged as a potential target.
Liverpool Exploring Deal for Mbaye
According to The Times, Liverpool are considering a move for Ibrahim Mbaye as they continue assessing alternatives in their search for a new wide attacker.
The 18-year-old Senegal international is being looked at separately from the Reds’ pursuit of Barcola, with PSG’s reported £145 million valuation of the France star proving a significant stumbling block.
Mbaye, who has been described as “exceptional” by former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, could represent a considerably cheaper option. PSG are understood to value the teenager somewhere between £34 million and £43 million.
Liverpool are not the only club monitoring the youngster, with Bayer Leverkusen also interested. However, Mbaye is reportedly attracted by the possibility of moving to Anfield, while his representative Jorge Mendes has strong connections with Liverpool’s hierarchy.
The teenager made history at PSG by becoming the club’s youngest-ever starter at just 16 years and six months old. Primarily a right winger, Mbaye can operate on either flank and has built a reputation for his pace, direct running and ability to beat defenders.
His route into PSG’s first team could also become more difficult, with the Champions League holders pursuing further attacking additions, potentially opening the door for Liverpool to make their move.
