Liverpool: Pearce reveals Jota return news

The Athletic’s Liverpool correspondent James Pearce has issued an update on the expected return date of the injured Diogo Jota.

The £36m-rated attacker has been sidelined for over a month due to a knee injury.

Can you beat the Anfield 100 appearances quiz? First up, which Liverpool player was the last to reach 100 league games before Trent Alexander-Arnold did it this season?

What is Pearce’s update on Jota?

In late-December, Pearce claimed that the Portugal international was ‘making good progress’ with his recovery from injury and said that he ‘could return to action by the end of January.’ However, it seems like that estimation may have been overly optimistic.

In a discussion thread with fans of the Merseyside club on their latest Premier League game versus arch-rivals Manchester United, Pearce was asked for an update on the attacker, to which he responded in a comment by sharing that “he should be back” by early-February.

Could this return be a big boost for Liverpool?

The return of the 24-year-old, who moved to Anfield from Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers for £40.23m back in the summer transfer window, could hand Jurgen Klopp’s side a big boost.

Even though Jota has been out of action for the Reds’ last seven Premier League games, he remains their joint-third-highest goalscorer in the top flight, trailing only Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Additionally, Liverpool haven’t enjoyed a great run of form during Jota’s absence, with the Merseyside club winning just two of their last seven games, while they’ve also failed to score in each of their last three Premier League fixtures.

Do Liverpool miss Jota badly?

So, we feel it would be justified for fans of the Merseyside club to be counting down the days to the Portuguese attacker’s return, in the hope that it helps them return to form and get back on track with their bid to retain the Premier League title.

In other news, many Liverpool fans were unimpressed by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s display at the weekend.
