Liverpool tracking “brutal” La Liga defender ahead of potential January swoop

Liverpool are still looking at ways to strengthen their defence after losing Ibrahima Konate in the summer.

Jeremy Jacquet has impressed since stepping into a bigger role, but his age means Andoni Iraola could still want more experience and depth.

That has reportedly led the Reds to one of La Liga’s standout defenders.

Liverpool Tracking Jon Aramburu

Liverpool are among the clubs monitoring Real Sociedad defender Jon Aramburu ahead of a potential January move, according to TEAMtalk.

The 24-year-old has continued to attract attention after another impressive spell in Spain, with Manchester City also understood to have checked on his situation. Tottenham, Newcastle, Everton and Fulham are reportedly among the other Premier League clubs keeping tabs on the Venezuela international.

Aramburu has been described as “brutal” by former Real Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil, underlining the defender’s aggressive style and growing reputation.

A move would not come cheaply, however, with the full-back contracted until 2030 and reportedly protected by a release clause of around £50 million.

That figure could make negotiations difficult, particularly if several Premier League clubs decide to compete for his signature. Liverpool could therefore face strong competition if they decide to turn their interest into a formal January approach.
