Liverpool have made a late enquiry in a push to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Kouadio “Manu” Koné, according to reports.
The Lowdown: Luiz and Arthur on the list
Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for a new addition in the middle of the park after being severely hampered by injuries of late, with nine first-team players currently ruled out of action.
The Reds are claimed to have made a £20m offer for Douglas Luiz from fellow Premier League side Aston Villa, while a move is also in progress for Juventus ace Arthur Melo.
The latter Brazilian seems to be further along the line, travelling to England for a medical on deadline day, but it looks like the South American duo aren’t the only targets.
The Latest: Liverpool make Kone enquiry
According to French outlet Media Foot (via Sport Witness), Liverpool are ‘interested’ in a deal for Kone and have ‘taken information’ regarding his availability.
Whilst there’s no indication that an official bid will be placed before the deadline, that stance could be ‘changed’ due to the injury crisis, with the Reds ‘preparing’ to build their future.
It’s stated that Newcastle United are also named ‘among the suitors’.

The Verdict: Massive coup
Kone is still at such a young age being 21, but he more than has the potential and experience to link straight up with the senior squad, and it would be a massive coup for Klopp if he could land him.
The Frenchman, who was dubbed ‘monstrous’ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, has started all four league games for Monchengladbach this season, averaging 2.8 tackles and one dribble per 90 minutes, via WhoScored.

Klopp loves his midfielders to win back possession and create a spark going forward, and Kone’s statistics suggest that he has both of these attributes, so he could be the ideal new addition that the German has been seeking.
