Liverpool plot escape route for Spanish international?

Victor ValdesLiverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have raised their pints to the latest transfer speculation emerging in the bar.

The Express reports that the Reds are heading the queue for Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes as Brendan Rodgers steps up his summer recruitment drive.

The Camp Nou legend is set to depart the Catalan club after 12 distinguished years and has already been linked with a host of possible destinations.

The 32-year-old Spanish international was thought to be favouring a big-money switch to Monaco as his contract runs its course with Barcelona.

However Spanish suggestions have been today indicated that there is a strong interest from Anfield, and there could even be a firm offer on the table.

While Reds punters would love to see the quality goalkeeper join, they are confused about whether the club actually need another number one. Simon Mignolet was only signed from Sunderland in the summer and he has performed admirably between the sticks this season for the Reds.

But today’s speculation suggests that Rodgers sees Valdes as an upgrade. With possible Champions League football on the horizon, perhaps Anfield could emerge as a genuine option for the Barca great.

Our Liverpool fans reckon Valdes isn’t a necessity given the form of Mignolet. Where do you stand? Let us know your thoughts below.
