Liverpool should really think again before cashing in on Harry Wilson: Opinion

Liverpool rounded off their superb season last weekend with Champions League success in Madrid.

Goals from Mo Salah and Divock Origi sealed a sixth European Cup for the Reds, and it was just what Jurgen Klopp’s men deserved after a season of excellent performances saw them just miss out on Premier League success.

It will of course be interesting to see how the club progress now over the next few transfer windows, as manager Klopp decides on who he sees as fitting into his squad from his current crop, while also making decisions on potential new signings.

However, one player on his books who he has a decision to make over is young winger Harry Wilson, who this weekend has been linked with a £21m move to the Bundesliga.

Here in the Tavern though, we feel like Klopp would be making a big mistake in letting Wilson go, with the 22-year-old doing more than enough to prove himself last season at Derby County, where he notched some 16 goals as the Rams made it to the play-off final.

For Klopp to let the 22-year-old go at this stage of his career would, in our opinion be a disaster. Wilson has everything about him to fit in with the way Liverpool play, and with the club being linked with massive moves for the likes of Nicolas Pepe, we feel they might already have a player of appropriate quality in Wilson.

Wilson’s ability to play on either wing as well as a number ten means he is ideal for a team like Liverpool, who play high pressing football and are likely to be involved in all competitions to the latter stages.

Liverpool don’t need to splash the cash, and in Wilson, they could be making a massive error in letting him move on for what is a relatively small fee in today’s market.
