Liverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have raised their pints with excitement at reports the Reds are planning to launch a bid for Barcelona youngster Cristian Tello during the summer.
Spanish paper Marca tonight suggests that Brendan Rodgers has outlined a move for the 21-year-old who could be available for around £8.4 million with the youngster ready to leave to find more regular football after struggling to gain playing time in Tito Vilanova’s side.
The Barcelona starlet has netted an impressive eight times with six assists and Rodgers is known to be eager to build a young Reds side that could compete at the top of the Premier League, which Tello would be a major part.
The young Spaniard agreed a new deal the Camp Nou recently but a relatively low release clause could see him departing the club for Anfield in the near future. Liverpool reportedly made a bid for Tello last summer before he signed his new contract.
Rodgers side could, however, face competition from Tottenham Hotspur who are also rumoured to be interested in paying the paltry fee for a player with such a promising future in the game.
