Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are unsure on Brendan Rodgers’ intentions after The Express revealed that they are pondering a £7.5 million move for Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph as Steven Gerrard’s replacement.
The Reds have been linked with the highly mobile and tough tackling 25-year-old in the build-up to January but since the announcement of Gerrard’s departure, the rumours have resurfaced.
The England international has rustled a few feathers at Villa Park as he is still yet to sign a new deal and this means that he can sign for Liverpool as a free agent in summer.
But reports suggest that Liverpool may decide to snap him up on the cheap in January as they don’t want any other club to poach him at the end of the season.
Tottenham are also seeking some midfield reinforcements but punters are convinced that given Liverpool’s long-term interest, they are still the strong favourites for Delph’s signature.
