Premier League champions Liverpool are deep into a full-scale summer rebuild, having already confirmed the high-profile arrivals of Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez — direct replacements for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.
They also shattered the Premier League transfer record to land Florian Wirtz for £116 million — a signing that will no doubt have opposition defences sweating ahead of the 2025/26 season.
But the Reds aren’t done yet.
According to multiple reports, Liverpool are now closing in on Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, who is entering the final year of his deal at Selhurst Park.
Guehi is said to be open to joining Arne Slot’s Anfield revolution — so long as he’s offered a guaranteed starting role, which seems likely given his form for Palace and England in recent seasons.
Liverpool to Offer Doak for Guehi
The stumbling block remains the fee. Palace have already rejected bids over £60 million from both Newcastle and Tottenham, and are holding out for top value.
Liverpool, understandably reluctant to pay a premium for a player in the final year of his contract, appear to have a creative solution.
According to The Sun, Liverpool are prepared to offer 19-year-old winger Ben Doak as part of a player-plus-cash deal to bring down Palace’s asking price.
Doak, a Scotland international, spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough where he featured 24 times in the Championship — scoring three and assisting seven. He’s rated around £25 million, and is highly admired by Palace.
Former Scotland star James McFadden praised Doak after his first senior international start, saying: “We all know he’s rapid and often you get players who are really quick but don’t have technical ability. But you can see he has got that.”
“His first touch is good, it takes him where he wants to go,” he said. “He gets himself in really good positions to cause problems.”
For Palace, Doak’s potential could soften the blow of losing Guehi, who looks set to leave — if not now, then for free in a year’s time.
