Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are unsure of their managers’ intentions after The Mirror wrote how Brendan Rodgers is eyeing Fabian Delph as Steven Gerrard’s long-term replacement.
Concerns are growing around Anfield for numerous reasons but one huge question that hangs in the balance is – ‘who’s going to step in for Gerrard?’
Despite the fact he is turning 35 in May, Gerrard is still one of the Reds’ most influential players.
His contract expires at the end of the season and despite the fact the club want him to stay on, they are still pondering possible replacements.
And the next player to emerge is former Leeds United star Delph who has broke into the England set-up this season but his progress has been halted after he dislocating his shoulder.
But the 25-year-old – like Gerrard – is out of contract at the end of the season and it is likely that he is going to leave Villa Park rather than sign a new contract.
Villains boss Paul Lambert may feel under pressure to sell him in January as he risks losing a highly talented midfielder on a free transfer.
