Los Blancos Closing In On Udinese Playmaker?

Richie Buxton 11 July 2009, 9:00 3 minutes read

Gaetano D'AgostinoAnother runner from MARCA decided to clock off early on Friday to join the regulars at The Transfer Tavern in an evening pint to toast the weekend, but not before he had spilled the beans on another shock target for the money men of Real Madrid.

According to our source at the Spanish tabloid, representatives from Los Blancos are prepared to meet with Serie A outfit Udinese in the next few days to discuss a transfer for Italian playmaker Gaetano D’Agostino.

Having failed in their attempts to lure Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso to the Spanish capital, in addition to rejected bids for Daniele de Rossi and Cesc Fabregas, Florentino Perez has been forced to
look elsewhere and Giampaolo Pozzo, the Zebrette’s president, revealed that negotiations for the former Roma player are set to take place imminently.

In an interview with Italian television channel Sportmediaset, Pozzo said “…there are several scheduled meetings between representatives of both teams in the coming days. The player, however, costs €25 million – same as for Juventus.”

Pozzo was referring to the fact that the Bianconeri have previously shown interest in the player and that a minimum fee for his signature has to be met.

D’Agostino himself has spoken about the interest from the Bernabeu and admits that he is excited by the prospect of becoming a galactico.

“I am flattered by the interest from Real Madrid,” he told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

“I’m very happy, but nothing is official yet. Right now that talk is for my lawyer because I’m under contract with Udinese.”

The Italian also admitted that he has been captivated by Real’s high-profile unveilings of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema: “I’ve been following the televised presentations of the players who have signed. Real Madrid are a unique team in the history of football and it was very dramatic.”

However, the player has admitted that any move from Udinese would have to boost his chances of establishing himself in the Italian national squad as the reigning world champions bid to retain their crown at the World Cup in South Africa next summer.

“This season I did very well and now I’m just waiting for a call to go there,”
he added.

So was it water, wine or whisky at the source of this one? Are Los Blancos really set to turn their attention to the Udinese playmaker? Should this rumour Fly or Die?
