The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the arrival of fresh talent in the near future.
Despite City’s astronomical lead at the top of the Premier League table, it appears that they are still in the market to further improve the squad this month. The ligament injury collected by Gabriel Jesus against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve has served to intensify rumours linking Alexis Sanchez with a move to the club, but it seems unlikely that Guardiola’s mid-season spending will start and end with the acquisition of the Chile international.
According to reports in The Daily Telegraph, City are targeting West Bromwich Albion captain and former Manchester United star Jonny Evans this month, although they face competition from Arsenal for his signature.
City’s need for further reinforcements at centre-back has become apparent in recent weeks due to Vincent Kompany’s inability to stay injury-free, and also due to Eliaquim Mangala’s poor performances throughout Kompany’s absence.
The reaction to City’s interest from their supporters on Twitter makes for interesting reading considering Evans’ history with Manchester United.
