It’s no secret that the Aston Villa fans at the Transfer Tavern haven’t been happy with the state of their club in recent years.
Aston Villa fans had all but lost their patience with the club. 17 points and a dead last finish in the Premier League two seasons ago, was followed up with a 13th place finish in the Championship last season. There is no two ways about it, some Villa players just weren’t pulling their weight and veteran manager, Steve Bruce, will know this and have no problems making changes should the need to arise this season coming.

Aston Villa are at risk of becoming another Blackburn or Charlton type side who spent so long in the top flight but very quickly tumbled down the divisions and quite frankly, that would be a disaster for such a historic club. These underperforming players have pre-season to prove themselves or Bruce could give up on them all together, and on that note, here are two Aston Villa players who seriously need to impress during pre-season.
Ross McCormack

Four goals in the Championship last season isn’t good enough from McCormack, but with Scott Hogan and Jonathan Kodjia currently out injured, this is McCormack’s chance to shine and to give Steve Bruce something to think about. If McCormack doesn’t take his chance in pre-season then Bruce may be forced to look to the transfer market to find a striker capable of scoring the goals required to get Villa back to the top.
Jack Grealish

A few seasons ago, Jack Grealish was being spoken about as one of the next big things in English football. Since that point, he hasn’t really done much to warrant such initial praise. There’s no saying that he isn’t capable of being a top player in the game but he needs to start proving it and soon otherwise he’ll wind up another could have been tale. He featured for Villa 31 times in the league last season, but Steve Bruce was probably hoping for more than five goals and five assists in that time.
