With all the talk of imminent arrivals at Chelsea here in the Football Transfer Tavern, it is easy to forget the club are still trying to move players on, although Andrew Dillon of The Sun has stopped by to reveal the difficulty the club is having in shifting one of their ageing stars.
Chelsea have been actively seeking a taker for French winger Florent Malouda for quite some time, although almost three weeks into the transfer window there has still yet to be a single bid.
The Blues would happily let Malouda walk away for nothing in a bid to trim their wage bill, although it appears no club is willing to come in and match the 32-year-olds £75,000-a-week pay packet.
Malouda has been frozen out at Stamford Bridge since the summer, and is still training with the Under-21’s. He rejected a chance to join West Ham United in the summer, despite Chelsea telling him he will never play for the club again.
A Stamford Bridge insider said: “It’s becoming a very awkward situation.
“He wants to leave and the club want him to leave. But while he is not playing for the first team he has dropped off the radar and clubs forget about him.
“Chelsea would think about waiving a fee just to get something done if the right club came in.”
Malouda joined Chelsea in 2007 from Lyon for a fee of £15 million.
The Frenchman refused to take a pay cut last year, and vowed to see out his remaining contract with the club which ends in June.
