The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Pep Guardiola to build a dynasty at the Etihad. His side has been simply sensational over the last few months, with every single player performing well. Though the Spaniard has brought in a number of new big names in recent times, this season has proven that both fresh talent and experience are needed, and Man City have the perfect mix of both at present.
One player that embodies that sentiment is David Silva. He’s an older statesman in the side now, at 31-years-old, but he’s every bit as important as he always has been. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, though, there has been concern that his time at the club is coming to an end. That, however, now looks unlikely.
According to the Mirror, Man City and Silva are edging closer to agreeing fresh terms after a breakthrough in discussions. Now, it is said, an announcement on the player could be made ‘in the coming weeks’ as they look to secure his future.
This is huge for the Citizens, as Silva has arguably become more important than ever this term. Now often the captain of the side, the Spaniard brings experience, technical ability and leadership to the Man City first team, and that is invaluable.
Guardiola clearly rates him highly, and so he will be delighted about this.
Landlord’s Verdict
Silva has retained his place this season, preventing the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva from making a name for themselves in the middle of the park.
He’s been crucial for the Citizens, and despite his age, his influence is not waning. A new deal makes total sense.
