One area Pep Guardiola is looking to strengthen after Manchester City’s record-breaking title win is midfield.
The Premier League champions have been strongly linked with a move for Napoli’s Jorginho, who is valued at £45m by Transfermarkt, but have yet to agree a fee after weeks of negotiations.
And now the club faces competition for the signature of the Brazilian-born Italy international with Chelsea said to have made a last-minute approach.
According to Tuttosport, the Blues are are willing to offer more than Manchester City’s current bid for Jorginho as they also look to wrap up a deal for Maurizio Sarri, who is still under contract at Napoli despite the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti, to become their new manager.
Manchester City have recently shown they are not interested in getting into bidding battles and overpaying for players after cooling their interest in Alexis Sanchez and Fred – both now at rivals Manchester United – and that trend could be set to continue with Jorginho.
The 26-year-old would fit in seamlessly at the Etihad and is the ideal type of midfielder for a Guardiola team. However, there are adequate enough alternatives if Napoli’s valuation does become too expensive, and the idea of Manchester City walking away from a deal is very much understandable.
Have a look at what Manchester City fans have had to say on the possible collapse of Jorginho’s transfer below
This would be ridiculous if City didn’t get this over the line. This should have been done weeks ago ..he wasn’t even involved in WC ..absolute joke. If he didn’t want to come then why not walk away weeks ago

This was bound to happen. There’s only so much a player can take. He has waited for a month. What more does he need to do to show his desire to join City? Txiki didn’t feel he was worth the extra 2 million. So he just felt more wanted at Chelsea. I can see Alexis happening again.
