Manchester City's Sergio Gomez in action
Manchester City left-back Sergio Gomez is now being targeted by Italian giants Juventus, according to a recent transfer report.
The Lowdown: Gomez’s Man City career
City completed the signing of Gomez in the summer, spending £11m on the left-back to recruit him from Anderlecht, but his game-time has so far been very limited in a sky blue shirt.
The defender has only featured for a total of 106 minutes in the Premier League, for the most part unable to dislodge Joao Cancelo in the starting XI, and he is now already being linked with a move elsewhere.
The Latest: Juventus interested in Gomez
According to a report from Calciomercato, Juventus are interested in signing a new left-back to replace Alex Sandro, and the Spaniard is being considered as an option.
It is further detailed that the player may ask to leave the Etihad Stadium and his agents could offer him to the Italian club, but City would not sell him on the cheap, aiming to hold out for around €35m-€40m (£31m-£35.4m).
The Verdict: Needs a chance
On the one hand, being able to sell an out-of-favour player for a profit of £20m or more could be seen as great business for City, but the 22-year-old has exhibited some flashes of great talent in his limited appearances and deserves a run in the first team.
In the 6-3 derby victory against Manchester United, the left-back weighed in with an assist for Erling Haaland’s third goal, before then putting in a very good performance against FC Copenhagen, winning three duels and making one key pass.
It is very difficult for any player to prove themselves when they are only given the odd cameo on the pitch, so Pep Guardiola should look to give Gomez increased game-time in the second half of the season in order to display the ‘superb‘ attributes that he possesses, in the words of football talent scout Jacek Kulig.
