Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still reeling after last weekend’s Premier League defeat to Everton and who can blame them?
Pep Guardiola’s side slumped to a heavy 4-0 defeat at Goodison Park in a performance that showed just how much work there is to do at the Etihad in the coming months.
Citizens here in the Tavern were less than impressed by the below-par performance, with certain individuals really standing out with some poor defending and lack of work-rate.
If anything, it showed that additions will in-fact need to be made in January, much to the joy of the City locals lining the bar at the pub.
But there are also certain mistakes that cannot be made by manager Pep Guardiola this window – things that would only send City hurtling back down the table in the coming months.
So with that in mind, here’s two things City will be fearful of happening during the January transfer window…
Losing players that score goals
We’ve seen it a lot over the past couple of years – City’s seeming need to get rid of players that actually contribute plenty of goals to the side.
The likes of Edin Dzeko, Alvaro Negredo and Wilfried Bony have all left in recent months and years to find game -time elsewhere and at times, you would wonder whether these sorts of players could fill in the gaps when things aren’t going Sergio Aguero’s way.
Their over-reliance on the Argentinian international has been clear to see at times this season and City mustn’t willingly sell players that will contribute with goals this time out.
Chinese clubs splashing the cash
Manchester City are very much the heavy spenders of the Premier League but it’s clear that the chance of Chinese clubs ruining their transfer plans could be very high indeed.
We’ve seen certain clubs in that neck of the woods submit some ludicrous offers for some of Europe’s top-talents and even for City, this is spending they can’t match.
The worry could very well be that Chinese clubs can afford to spend that extra ten million, whereas financial fair play restrictions here in England actually limit City somewhat.
