The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for their side to push for the Premier League title this season…
Their side is full of quality, but with so many top teams in the Premier League, it definitely isn’t going to be easy.
In truth, the Citizens are going to need all the help they can get if they want to win the title, and perhaps a new signing or two in January could be just what they need.
One player that could be on the way to the Etihad is Alexis Sanchez, whose contract expires next summer. It is noted by the Daily Mail that a £20 million offer could come in from the Citizens in January, with Pep Guardiola keen to sign the player that he couldn’t get over the summer as soon as possible.
Of course, in the modern game, £20 million is unlikely to be enough to sign a player of Sanchez’s quality – but the circumstances with this deal could change that.
He has just one more year left on his contract, and that’ll be down to 6 months by the time January comes around. Thus, with the prospect of losing him on a free just a few months away, perhaps the Gunners could be tempted to cash in.
Signing Sanchez would be a massive coup for the Sky Blues, and whilst their attack is already one of Europe’s best, Sanchez would take them to another level.
Landlord’s Verdict
Sanchez is one of the Premier League’s best players. If Arsenal don’t convince him to sign a new deal, it would surely go down as one of the biggest transfer failings in recent memory.
Still, what is their loss could be Man City’s gain – and what a gain it would be. He bagged 24 goals in the Premier League last season.
An attack made up of Kevin De Bruyne, Alexis Sanchez and Raheem Sterling would be unstoppable.
