The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are becoming increasingly confident of securing a third Premier League title this season following victory over Arsenal on Sunday.
City welcomed Arsenal to the Etihad with a near-perfect record this season, and their unbeaten run never looked in danger as they ran out comfortable 3-1 winners in Manchester. Kevin de Bruyne broke the deadlock after just 19 minutes with a rasping effort that breached the fingertips of Peter Cech on its way into the bottom corner. City looked to be in cruise control when Aguero calmly dispatched a 50th-minute penalty after Sterling was brought down by Monreal. Lacazette came off the bench to briefly half the deficit before Jesus made sure of the points with a tap-in after 74 minutes.
Even at this early stage of the season, the title appears to be City’s to lose. The only circumstance that could halt their pursuit would be the loss of key players through injury or permanent departure from the club.
The blue contingent propping up the bar are concerned by previous reports in The Sun linking their beloved David Silva with a move to Liverpool.
The loss of Silva in the window would certainly leave City with the impossible task of replacing the imperious Spaniard.
While it was a rumour somewhat out of left field, the rumours had us thinking as to what kind of Liverpool players would fit in at City, with Silva quite clearly walking in easily to the Reds’ starting XI.
With that being said, here are two players that could be used as part of a swap-deal for Silva.
Emre Can
With strong abilities to perform at both ends of the pitch, Can might be just the sort of player Guardiola is looking for to add support for Fernandinho and Gundogan in the centre of midfield.
At just 23 years of age, Can has plenty of developing to do, and Guardiola may just relish the chance to work to work with the highly-rated German and help him realise his full potential.
The paired worked together at Bayern Munich and Can has already been linked with a move to the Etihad, so it’s easy to see him fitting in.
Joe Gomez
The rise of Gomez has been one of the success stories of the season at Anfield.
Gomez who is naturally a centre-back has been deployed at right-back for the full 90 minutes by Klopp in Liverpool’s last 6 Premier League games.
His fantastic form for the club has not gone unnoticed by England manager Gareth Southgate who recently selected the 20 year-old defender for international duty in their upcoming friendlies.
With City slightly short of quality at centre-back, they may well be interested in giving the hot-prospect an opportunity to prove himself in his natural centre-back position under Pep Guardiola.
