Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern were lining up at the bar in good spirits after seeing their side deservedly held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
Rafa Benitez’s men were beaten 1-0 by Brighton last weekend to suffer a third Premier League defeat of the campaign, but they produced a much better performance at home to Jurgen Klopp’s Reds to secure their tenth point of the season.
The visitors went ahead through Philippe Coutinho’s excellent strike, only for Jonjo Shelvey to pick out Joselu with a relatively simple through ball, from which the Magpies forward found the net, albeit fortunately, to draw the North East giants level.
Both teams created opportunities to win it but a draw was probably a fair result, with several Newcastle players earning deserved plaudits from the home faithful in the aftermath.
And one man who has come in for much praise on Twitter following Sunday’s encounter is defender DeAndre Yedlin, who moved to St James’ Park last year in a bid to help them return to the Premier League.
The United States international missed their first four league games of the campaign but has started their last three since then, with his efforts against the much-talked-about and much-feared Liverpool frontline more than enough to suggest that he’ll remain a permanent fixture in the side.
