Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are anticipating a wealth of changes to their ranks this summer and are expecting a lot of big names to be on the way out.
One of those they believe will be offloaded is veteran midfielder Michael Carrick who, at 35, has given years of service to the Red Devils after moving to Old Trafford from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2006.
During a successful decade with United, Carrick has won everything he could possibly get his hands on in club football; including five Premier Leagues, two FA Cups and the Champions League in 2008.
However, that spell seems to be coming to an end and Carrick himself has sparked exit rumours ahead of the summer window, as The Sun reports he’s building a new house in the North East of England.
Born in Tyne & Wear, Rafael Benitez’ Newcastle United are named as potential suitors for the experienced midfielder as they look to secure their status in the top-flight of English football, having successful earned promotion earlier this week.
Our landlord believes Carrick will stay in English football due to the World Cup next summer and believes it would be good for all parties if he was to pen a short-term deal with Benitez’ side.
