Manchester United fans aren’t best pleased this morning after they’ve been given the news that their club has offered Juan Mata a £140,000 per week contract to stay at Old Trafford according to The Sun. The deal would only be a one-year extension and is an attempt to stop Arsenal from poaching him for free as his current deal ends in summer.

Whilst a lot of Manchester United fans love Juan Mata and would want to keep him at the club, they just cannot justify giving a 30-year-old midfielder who only plays rotationally a contract worth £6.7 million for the one year. The Spaniard has been a loyal servant to United since signing from Chelsea back in January 2014 and has scored 44 goals in 208 appearances for the Manchester club.
Despite his loyalty and his efforts at the club, the fans are seeing sense in letting him go. The Spaniard is now 30 and his influence is dwindling, so to let him leave on a free transfer to Arsenal isn’t the worst thing in the world. Although if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signs him on the new deal and makes a profit in the summer on the Spaniard then the fans would be delighted with the business.

140k to sit on the bench

As much of a nice guy he is, that’s a ridiculous amount to pay something to sit on the bench and write an occasional blog

He should leave the club.

he should leave

Absolutely lovely bloke. An overwhelmingly great ambassador for the club and in my opinion, our best finisher, BUT, he's far too slow. Unlike Silva, he can't shield the ball, but just ends up on his backside constantly.

I love Mata but I would rather we keep Herrera

The United fans all love Juan Mata, but they still understand that offering him this bumper contract is not the way forward given his age and current playing time.
