Man United star reveals Man City transfer scenario

Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been given a major story to discuss today as they await this evening’s crucial Manchester derby, following comments from one of their star-men.

Ivorian defender Eric Bailly has impressed in his debut season at Old Trafford, becoming a key-member of Jose Mourinho’s side and showing that he has the ability to be a leading centre-back for the Red Devils in the coming years.

However, Bailly told The Daily Mirror that things could have been a lot different last summer if it wasn’t for Mourinho, who swooped in to prevent the defender joining Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

“I was in the Ivory Coast, I got called from a Portuguese number, he introduced himself but I just didn’t believe it at first,”

“Before I came to Man United, it was City who had been watching me. In my mind, I was going there. But then everything changed. It felt like Mourinho was the one who really wanted me. He showed more interest, he rang me and that’s why I’m at Man United.”

“Man City contacted my agent, Barcelona as well were talking to my agent, but they weren’t as interested in me as Mourinho. He really pushed for the move. Of course the club is important when you sign, but the manager is so important. If a player feels like the manager wants you, wants to sign you, it gives you extra motivation.”

Had Manchester City sealed the signature of Bailly, the Citizens would likely be enjoying far better form this season than they have endured- as Guardiola’s side face a fierce battle to finish in the Champions League spots.

Our landlord believes Bailly would have excelled across the city with Guardiola’s side and he’s praised Mourinho for swooping in and sealing a deal.

Where would United be without Bailly this season? Let us know in the comments below!
