Mourinho sweating on fitness of key Man Utd man ahead of massive Arsenal clash

The Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern don’t know what to think about this…

Wayne Rooney has been a divisive figure in recent weeks, with the Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern unable to come to a conclusion on whether he should be a regular fixture this season under Jose Mourinho.

For better or worse, depending on which side of that argument you fall upon, it would appear that Jose Mourinho may not get the chance to make his decision on the player this weekend as Man Utd take on Arsenal – and whichever way you swing that; that is a big blow for Man Utd.

According to the Sun, Wayne Rooney is a huge doubt for Man Utd’s clash against Arsenal after withdrawing from international duty with England.

The England skipper is set to miss the clash against Spain due to a knee injury – and that has left Mourinho sweating on whether Rooney will be available for the weekend.

On any other match-day, the issue of Rooney’s fitness would not be a very big issue for Mourinho; but this weekend’s game poses particular significance for the England veteran.

First choice striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is suspended for the game, meaning that even the more cynical Man Utd fans in the Tavern were backing Rooney for a start. Marcus Rashford, meanwhile, has been out-of-sorts in recent weeks – and cannot be relied upon.

If Rooney isn’t fit, Mourinho may be forced to rely upon young players, or play a midfielder out-of-position – and that is not ideal for the Portuguese boss.
