The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern weren’t expecting this…
Jesse Lingard has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence under Jose Mourinho this season, having featured fairly frequently under the Portuguese boss.
An exciting, dynamic winger – Lingard certainly has talent, and he looks likely to be a pretty solid talent as he continues to progress.
He hasn’t done anything particularly outstanding, but he has maintained a solid level of form and has impressed under Mourinho – and so it would not come as a surprise to learn that the Manchester giants are apparently looking to tie him down to a new long-term deal at Old Trafford – according to the Mirror.
What might come as slightly more of a surprise, however, is that he is reportedly being offered £60,000 per week – and unbelievably; he looks likely to demand even more!
The Mirror are reporting that Lingard is in somewhat of a contract stand-off with Man Utd, with the Englishman wanting more than the £60,000 that he has been offered. Crucially, though, they also note that Lingard is not looking to force a move through, but rather he is in no rush to sign a new deal with the club – as he looks to line up his wages with some of his teammates.
This has come as a surprise to the Man Utd fans in the Tavern, many of whom think that £60,000 per week is far beyond what Lingard deserves to be earning. Whilst he has played this season, he looks unlikely to play more than a bit-part role at Old Trafford as time goes on – with the likes of Martial, Mata and Mkhitaryan all waiting in the wings.
In 6 Premier League starts so far this season, Lingard has managed just 1 assist – which is a pretty poor record when you consider the time that Mourinho has allowed him during the campaign so far.
