For the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern, it is essential that Jose Mourinho signs a new striker this summer…
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has impressed, but given his age – he certainly can’t continue forever. Furthermore, with Wayne Rooney’s future looking increasingly uncertain, it seems as though the Man Utd front line could be about to have a serious overhaul.
One player that the Red Devils have continually been linked with is Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann. Undoubtedly one of Europe’s best forwards, it was a deal that made sense on every front.
However, it appears as though that deal will no longer be possible – with Spanish publication AS reporting that the Frenchman has agreed to remain at the club for at least another year.
A combination of factors, most notably loyalty to the club and Diego Simeone, have reportedly influenced his decision – and it seems as though the Red Devils will have to wait for at least another year if they want to get their man – with the 2017-18 season looking more likely.
This is certainly a blow for Jose Mourinho, with Griezmann undoubtedly the best option for the Manchester-based side. Prolific in front of goal with an electric engine and vast technical ability to match – the Frenchman is absolutely perfect for the Premier League.
The striker has 12 goals and 6 assists this season.
Our landlord thinks that a front three of Martial, Griezmann and Mkhitaryan would have been unstoppable – and he isn’t sure where else Man Utd could go from here. The deal would be vital for so many reasons, not least because he would be a long-term solution to the Red Devils’ attacking concerns.
