The Belgian’s contract at Old Trafford expires this summer, and as of yet, he is yet to sign to a new deal at the club. As a result, he’s already free to talk to clubs abroad, and soon he’ll be able to discuss a domestic departure too. Any move, of course, would be on a free basis – with Man Utd not able to earn a transfer fee from the deal. He could yet renew, of course, but it isn’t looking all that likely.
As a result, whether it happens or not, it makes sense for Man Utd to prepare for his departure this summer.
Rated at £10.8 million by Transfer Markt, Fellaini has had a mixed spell at Old Trafford, but he’s clearly a favourite of Jose Mourinho, and so his departure will leave a pretty sizeable gap in the first team.
As a result, Mourinho will need to invest in someone that can make an impact just like the Belgian has over the last few years.
With that said, Man Utd should sign 1 of these 2 players if Fellaini quits this summer…
Benjamin André
Benjamin Andrè is a player that shares a lot of the same traits as Fellaini.
At 27-years-old, he’s a figure with bags of experience behind him, and he has been one of the more impressive midfielders in France this season.
On the pitch, he’s a physical presence and is particularly strong in the air – which would endear him to Jose Mourinho.
He’s certainly a defensive player, and so he wouldn’t offer too much going forward, but when trying to protect a lead, Mourinho would struggle to find a better option.
Wilfred Ndidi
If Mourinho wants to look a little closer to home, then Wilfred Ndidi could be just what he is looking for.
A proven Premier League midfielder, he’s taken over the role that N’Golo Kante had at the King Power, and so that’s a testament to just how good he is.
On the flip side to Andre, he is just 21-years-old, and so he’s still a player that is developing. As such, his main impact will come in the near future, rather than the present.
However, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be able to do a job now. He’s proven that he’s good enough for the Premier League already, and he’s just getting better every week.
