With Manchester United announcing Jose Mourinho as Louis Van Gaal’s replacement, many changes are expected at the club and it’s got our resident Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern dreaming!
An FA Cup win aside it’s been a frustrating campaign for the Red Devils, whose fans have made it known on a number of occasions that Louis Van Gaal’s style of play is far from acceptable at the club.
There has been very little attacking football and were it not for David De Gea, there would have been a few more losses in the league than they ended up with.
There are changes needed at both ends of the field and Mourinho probably already knows who he wants to bring in to add to what United have got.
He’s known for his defensive solidarity and here at the Transfer Tavern, our landlord think this FIVE could be United’s and Mourinho’s dream defence for next year!

David De Gea – Goalkeeper

There’s still going to be rumours about the Spaniard leaving for Real Madrid but the Mourinho factor might be enough for him to stay.
De Gea has had another great season for United, keeping them in games on a number of occasions.
The best in the league for most and one of the best in the world and United wouldn’t be able to get a replacement as good if he did leave.
He has to stay if United want success.
Danilo – Right Back

Danilo is fast becoming one of the best right backs in world football but faces competition for his spot at Real Madrid from another who suits that tag – Dani Carvajal.
The two have battled for the starting position at the Bernabeu all season, but neither have made it their own and so the Brazilian might fancy a move to play more regularly.
One thing’s for sure he’d walk into the Red Devils’ back line.
Chris Smalling – Centre Back

Smalling has emerged as one of the country’s strongest centre backs this season, and it’s widely expected he’ll start for England at EURO 2016.
Deserves to start in a Mourinho defence as he has shown the potential he has this year and a willingness to work hard on his game, something the former Chelsea boss will love.
A bright future lies ahead for the former Fulham man and he will probably be the only survivor of United’s back four once Mourinho comes in.
Raphael Varane – Centre Back

Everyone knows about the talent Varane has and it’s surely a case of when not if he becomes a starter at one of the world’s biggest clubs.
He finds himself – perhaps wrongly – behind Pepe and Sergio Ramos in the Real Madrid pecking order, but would be a great addition wherever he goes.
He has plenty of years left in his career too, and could be part of the Red Devils’ defence for a long time.
Fabio Coentrao – Left Back

The Portuguese has been linked with a move to Manchester before but that never came to pass.
Coentrao currently finds himself in Monaco but is still regarded as one of the best left backs in football, and may command a cheaper fee than he did when he was at Real.
Another player that would more than likely stroll into United’s line up, Coentrao would complete United’s dream defence.
