Manchester City are entering a new era under Enzo Maresca, with the club still reshaping a squad that has undergone significant change since Pep Guardiola’s departure.
That rebuild could require another attacking addition before the transfer deadline.
Omar Marmoush and Savinho are both expected to join Tottenham in the coming days, leaving Maresca with fewer options in the wide areas despite the recent arrival of Palmeiras winger Allan.
City have now identified another experienced international as a player worth keeping tabs on.
Man City Monitoring Gakpo
Manchester City are monitoring Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo ahead of the transfer deadline, with the Premier League champions having already made enquiries about his availability.
According to ESPN, City have sounded out the situation surrounding the Netherlands international, although they have yet to open direct negotiations with Liverpool.
Gakpo remains an important part of Arne Slot’s plans and Liverpool’s position throughout the summer has been that they want to retain the 27-year-old. That stance could potentially change if the Reds manage to bring in another attacking player before the window shuts.
The Dutchman began Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle and found the net, continuing a strong spell in front of goal. He has now scored 24 goals for the Netherlands, adding to his reputation as a versatile forward capable of operating across the front line.
Gakpo’s experience, versatility and proven Premier League record could therefore make him an attractive target, although Liverpool’s willingness to actually consider selling him remains the major question.
