Former Manchester City superstar rejected by club sitting bottom of Ligue 1, struggling to find new team

Raheem Sterling’s attempts to find the next chapter of his career have suffered another setback, with the former Manchester City winger reportedly struggling to attract interest from France.

The 31-year-old is currently without a club and looking for an opportunity to rebuild his reputation after a difficult few years.

Sterling was once regarded as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attackers, winning four league titles during his time at Manchester City and becoming a regular for England.

However, his career has taken a sharp turn since leaving the Etihad, and he now appears to be facing an increasingly uncertain future.

Raheem Sterling Rejected by Ligue 1 Clubs

According to Foot Mercato, Sterling was offered to Le Havre but the Ligue 1 club opted against making a move for the free agent.

The French side currently sit at the bottom of the division but apparently do not believe they need to strengthen out wide, with their existing options considered sufficient.

Sterling’s representatives are also understood to have contacted another unnamed Ligue 1 club, only to receive another rejection.

It represents a surprising situation for a player who was once one of the most valuable attackers in European football.

His decline has been particularly noticeable since his £50m move from Manchester City to Chelsea in 2022. Sterling struggled to consistently reproduce his best form at Stamford Bridge and subsequently found himself out of favour.

A loan spell at Arsenal failed to provide the desired turnaround either. The winger made 28 appearances for the Gunners but managed just one goal and five assists during his time in north London.

Chelsea eventually reached an agreement with Sterling to end his contract in January 2026, allowing him to search for a fresh challenge.

He then moved to the Netherlands, joining Feyenoord as a free agent in February. However, that spell also failed to develop into the career revival he would have hoped for, with Sterling unable to establish himself as a regular starter.

Now available once again, the former England international is searching for another opportunity.

With two Ligue 1 clubs reportedly declining the chance to sign him, Sterling’s next destination remains unclear. For a player who has won four Premier League titles and previously operated at the highest level, his current situation represents a significant change in fortunes.
