Manchester City: Fans blast Jamie Carragher for Champions League appreciation comments

Speaking to France Football, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher hinted Manchester City fans don’t appreciate the Champions League – with fans hitting back.

The ex-Reds defender spoke in depth (via Sport Witness) over City supporters’ perceived notion that they would prefer to win the league over the European Cup, with Carragher hinting the reason for that could be a lack of understanding over what the competition means.

Carragher, who didn’t manage to win the Premier League during his 17-year-long career at Liverpool, spoke to the French outlet ahead of another round of Champions League fixtures starting tonight – with the Reds hosting Genk and City travelling to face Atalanta on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old Sky Sports pundit said: “To take a recent example, I don’t think that Manchester City understand what Europe means.

“If you speak to fans, you’ll see they still prefer to win the league than the Champions League, but when you see what happened at Liverpool this summer, it’s so obvious that the European Cup is far more important. It’s huge.

“Wherever you go, someone will talk to you about Liverpool.”

Maybe it’s because he’s never won the league that’s why the champions league means more to spitty. But same could be said for city fans, i do genuinely prefer the league
